NI-C78SR Stainless Steel Is Still the Best

By NickD

Wife has an Italian made shade lamp, 25 years old she brought with her. Never seen a lamp like this before, a special material 3 feet wide by ten feet tall with rollers on the top and bottom and a bracket affair that sits in the center with a spotlight on it. Was my job to restore it to new condition.

Won't get into converting this lamp to US standards, adding a touch dimmer, sanding and painting and all that, my challenge was to wash and clean that shade with 25 years of dust on it and to iron it. I had a Panasonic Telfon iron, not that old, but the Telfon was falling off and the steam holes were partially blocked spraying out chunks of water.

I purchased this NI-C78SR iron with the very price anywhere from Amazon just for this job. She was concerned about me burning her shade, just told her to leave the room, it did an excellent job and her shade looked like new again. I like the retractable cord and the removable tank, but only use distilled water in it.

She was extremely pleased to see her precious shade lamp installed in her sitting room, but thought I was foolish to buy an iron just for this job. Hey, a man needs the right tool for the job. Offered to give NI-C78SR to her, said she needs Telfon, think she is brainwashed. So I cleaned it up, and packed it up in the box, this was like nine months ago.

Just yesterday, she asked me if she could use it for a new special dress, said sure, I am not hard to get along with, you can use any of my tools, LOL. She really loved it as well, that stainless runs so smooth and doesn't chip nor plug up the steam holes. But if it does, it can be cleaned. With the older Teflon coated iron, rust appears under the chips.

My only wish is that the control was more accessible, my big hands barely fit in there, yes, I was playing with that to be assured I would not burn her shade.

I hate Teflon, Ford and GM was using it in their vehicle air conditioning compressors, would chip and cause black death, falls off pots and pans and you end up eating it, and the same with the iron, more disadvantages than advantages. Stainless was used for years, and still is the best, even for an iron.
